JAGUAR MARK II

1960 Jaguar Mk. II 3.8 Manual/Overdrive in Indigo Blue with contrasting red leather upholstery and chrome wire wheels. Delivered new to South Africa an early matching-numbers example. Repatriated in 1990 with a recent sympathetic restoration completed by the Lewmark Auto Company with this still standing the test of time. Sensible upgrades, with more modern motoring in mind, include an alloy radiator, four-pot front brake calipers, Koni Classic shock absorbers and a stainless steel exhaust.
Launched in 1959, the Jaguar Mk. II offered a noticeably improved driving experience over its predecessor courtesy of revised front suspension geometry, widened rear suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. Improvements were achieved by increasing the cabin glass area by almost 20%, while narrower front and central body pillars gave the car a more refined appearance. The evergreen Jaguar XK engine was employed once again, with a 220bhp, 3.8 litre high-performance version as used in the Mk. IV saloon, this engine being used for the first time in a mid-range Jaguar saloon, in addition to the 2.4 and 3.4 litre engine options carried over from the Mk. I. With spirited 125mph performance, including a 0-60mph time of 8.5 seconds, the 3.8 litre was immediately in demand and the manual gearbox equipped examples remain amongst the most desirable.
Chassis number 201608DN’s manufacture was completed on the 20th of July 1960 according to the accompanying Jaguar Heritage Certificate and was supplied new to South Africa. This desirable, original right-hand-drive example is fitted with the 3781cc straight-six engine mated to the four-speed manual Moss transmission with overdrive. Notable as an early Mk2, 910 NMY features recessed sun visors, pendant throttle pedal and smooth matt black centre dash section.
This matching-numbers example is fitted with four-pot front brake calipers, recently replaced rear brakes and Koni Classic shock absorbers. Benefitting from restoration work in 2020-2021 by Cricklewood-based Lewmark Auto Company which included a respray, interior refresh, carburettor overhaul with new jets and needles, a new aluminium radiator with Kenlowe fan, renewed heater matrix and further works and services which can all be seen in the included receipt from Lewmark Autos for over £5,000. Replacement triple-plated front and rear bumpers have also been added.
This lovely Jaguar Mk. II comes with a V5C, a USB-stick documenting the restoration works that's been published into a hardback book, both wooden and original steering wheels, the Jaguar Heritage Certificate, MOT Certificate until Feb 2023 with no advisories and the most recent restoration and service invoice for c.£4,000. This is without doubt a fantastic example of the very sought-after Mk. II and would rightfully deserve its place in any major Jaguar collection, as you can see in the photos this car is as good underneath as she is on top. As you can imagine upon test drive this car drove superbly with a responsive engine and a gearbox which glides through the gears, the power steering making this a real joy to drive.
