1956 Ford Thunderbird Convertible. Pistachio and White with Green leather upholstery. The Thunderbird was Ford's response to General Motors and their Chevrolet Corvette. When introduced in 1955 it outsold the more expensive Corvette by 24:1 as a direct result of its clean styling, creature comforts and V8 refinement. Now rightly becoming recognised as a "blue oval icon" the model now features in many serious and noted collections. The T-Bird could be considered the very back-bone of American youth culture. Sleek in styling, and already sporting the 292ci, V8 engine that has proved itself over previous generations, this brisk luxury tourer proved hugely popular possibly due to the fact that its emphasis relied more on driver comfort rather than speed. It thus remained in production right up to 2005 in one form or another. The 1956 model freed up more boot space by mounting the spare wheel outside as well as moving the exhausts to the ends of the bumper and cabin ventilation was improved. Porthole windows were added to the hardtop as a no-cost option if required. Restored in recent years back in the USA, this fab Ford was stripped and re-painted in the original factory colour scheme of Pistachio Green and White. The old paintwork was removed using a chemical and mechanical process. Considerable expenditure has been focused here complete with new chrome elements and original upholstery. The braking system has been renovated back in the USA and the classic V8 engine presents in lovely condition and runs perfectly. It also benefits from the correct rear wheel and original travel kit and hard top. This amazing piece of American history is just waiting to be enjoyed in new hands and is a car that we are very proud to offer. Absolutely any inspection is welcome and viewing is highly recommended.
