BMW ISETTA

Supplied new in the UK in June 1959, this chic little bubble car shows just five owners from new and has been completely rebuilt by the previous owner who was a bubble car collector.
Built in Brighton, our BMW Isetta 300 deluxe finds its origins in an Italian design by Iso Isetta who were manufacturers of refrigerators (hence the fridge door handle on the front!). BMW saw its potential and purchased the rights to manufacture it making a few tweaks along with way including upping the capacity of the tiny motor from 250 to 300cc in later models and introducing features like the glass sliding windows so loved by the Americans who dubbed them the ‘Isetta Slider’ in favour of the earlier ‘bubble’ style plastic windows which were prone to cracking.
The previous owner purchased this Isetta as an unfinished restoration through his network of club members after the previous owner sadly died during its restoration. The car had been painted to a high standard in the fetching baby blue and white we see today. The four-stroke motor has been completely rebuilt with invoices on file for many parts including new seals, gaskets and crank. The gearbox and rear drive unit were also restored along the way.
The braking system was fully overhauled with new shoes, flexi hoses, plus steering bushes and new stainless-steel rear carrier fitted. It also benefits from new tyres on refurbished, powder coated wheels. The car is left-hand drive, preferable for many as the weight distribution is ideal, with the driver on one side, and the engine on the other.
The history file includes the V5C, copy handbook, batch of invoices, restoration booklet, two ignition keys plus key for engine cowl and door. The car is a veteran of many shows and has won the silver award for 2nd best pre-1960 car in show at the Festival of 1000 cars at Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire in 2018. The Isetta starts and runs well and on a local test drive drew the attention of all who saw it with smiles and waves. The car is both tax and MOT exempt although we will apply a fresh MOT upon sale. With microcar values rising strongly of late we see this car as a sound investment. Absolutely any inspection is welcome. All major debit cards accepted. Delivery included to mainland UK.
